I-pods aren't allowed in class at Camino Real Middle School. I believe that students should be allowed to listen to their i-pods during classes. I-pods actually help students accomplish more while they listen to them. Also, some teachers would like to let you listen to an ipod if it were up to them.
Most teachers wouldn't mind if you listened to your ipod. For instance, when I interviewed them, they all had pretty much the same answer to the question, "Do you think students should be allowed to listen to ipods during class?" One teacher said, "No, I don't mind as long as it's not during a lecture or instruction." But some teachers do mind. One teacher I interviewed said ipods were a distraction.
However, students can multitask. Meaning they can be working on an assignment and listening to their music. Just look at the kids in band!
Also, math is closely related to music so a student should be doing better when they're listening to music. Finally, if every student were allowed to keep their ipods in their pockets, there would be less theft. And students could share their ipods. That way they wouldn't cause a commotion.
So teachers, you want students that are accomplishing much more? Do you want a quiet class? Then let students listen to their ipods. It's a good idea!
